When it comes to lifting and transporting heavy materials, forklifts are the backbone of industries such as warehousing, logistics, and construction. However, choosing the right forklift for your needs can be challenging with the various models available. From counterbalance forklifts to rough terrain and electric forklifts, understanding their unique features and uses is crucial for maximizing efficiency and safety.

Forklifts come in many various shapes and sizes, each with its powers and weaknesses. Below are some of the additional common forklift classes that Masslift sells and hires.

8 types of forklifts are following

1) 4 Wheel Counterbalance

The most standard forklift on the market. They are straightforward forklifts with dual forks in the front and are operated to lift heavy loads. All three fuel types Electric, Diesel & LP Gas come in the 4-wheel choice. Capacities range from 1.5 – 25 Tons depending on the fuel type with masts as high as 7m.

2) 3 Wheel Electric Counterbalance

The same as 4-wheel counterbalance forklifts but the back wheels are nearer together in the center of the frame for enhanced turning capability. Used especially where space constraints are a factor, like the biased aisle warehouses. Ideal for 3.2m – 3.5m aisles.

3) Reach Trucks

Built to lift loads to heights of 13m, these machines permit warehouses to use very high aisle setups and eventually save space with limited spacing between aisles (roughly 2.6m-3.1m). The Reach Truck capacities vary from 0.9 Tons – to 3.0 Tons with the 1.4 Tons and 2 Tons being the most typical options. Like all warehousing tools, Reach Trucks can only be utilized indoors and must work on clean flat surfaces.

4) Power Pallet Trucks

An electric arrangement of the popular Pallet Jack also known as a Pump Truck. These machines allow you to maneuver pallets or other heavy goods quickly and efficiently within a warehouse and can lift up to 100m off the ground.

5) Stackers

Stackers are like Power Pallet Trucks but with a mast permitting the ability to lift pallets to the greatest height of 5.4m They are also known for their comfort of use and are cheaper than conventional forklifts. This product is excellent to use in smaller warehouses. There are two kinds of Stackers delivered depending on the pallet type used being, ‘Fork Over’ and ‘Straddle Stackers’.

6) Order Pickers

Order pickers are scheduled for “Hand Picking” rather than moving full pallets. They permit personnel to quickly and efficiently pick up orders in a warehouse. The basic sample will lift the platform to the second row of racking (1-2m). High-level order pickers can promote the worker to a picking height of 11.5m allowing them to reach products held in higher places.

7) Rough Terrain

Rough Terrain forklifts are constructed to operate in rough uneven conditions such as gravel, sand, and even muddy textures. The major difference between a conventional forklift and a Rough Terrain forklift is that the latter has a break.

8) Articulated Forklift

Articulated forklifts permit for very limited aisles (1.5 – 2m wide). This is because they do not have to right angle stack as the mast can articulate into either flank of the racking.

Selecting the right forklift depends on your specific operational needs, environment, and load requirements. Whether you need a compact electric forklift for indoor use or a rough terrain forklift for construction projects, knowing the different types and their applications helps in making an informed decision.
