The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently awarded $970 million for airport construction in 46 states, Guam, and Palau.

Projects at 125 airports will help improve the passenger experience, build more features that enhance accessibility for those with disabilities, and improve sustainability. The improvements include installation of new baggage systems, expansion of security checkpoints, increases in gate capacity, and modernization of terminal and ground transportation infrastructure.

Airport Terminal Program recipients include:

  • $40 million to Tampa International Airport in Florida for construction of Terminal D, a new 16-gate airside terminal with nine passenger boarding bridges and an automated people mover connecting Terminal D to the main terminal
  • $40 million to Washington Dulles International Airport for construction of a 14-gate, 400,000 sf terminal building with connections to the Aerotrain and the Metrorail
  • $35 million to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport for central utility plant upgrades, including chiller, condensing water pump, central plant piping, heat exchanger and cooling tower replacement
  • $33.3 million to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas for construction of the new Midfield Terminal B and construction of a 518-foot underground tunnel to connect the new terminal to the existing terminal
  • $30 million to Los Angeles International Airport in California for the LAX Terminal Roadways Project, which includes installing roadways, ramps, bridges, pedestrian bridges, intersection improvements, traffic signals and controls, traffic monitoring and management equipment, street lighting, signage, and sidewalk striping
  • $27.5 million to Philadelphia International Airport in Pennsylvania for improvements at Terminals D & E
  • $20 million to Chicago O’Hare International Airport in Illinois for expansion of Terminal 5 and reconfiguration of a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint.
